Youngster shot dead in Wattala 

A 25-year-old man was riding on a motorcycle was shot to death by two men also came in a motorcycle, using a T-56 assault rifle to commit the crime at broad daylight today in Elakanda, Wattala, the police said.

They said the deceased has been identified as M.A. Nipuna Chandika Perera, from Aliwatta, Mola Road, Mattakkuliya.

The police said the murder suspected to have been due to an altercation between underworld gangs.

The victim came out of a fitness centre and was buying vegetables from a nearby stall where the murderers opened fire at him, they said. 

Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim fell on the ground after receiving the first gun shot, and later the gunmen came closer and shot him again on the head before fleeing the scene, the police said.
