Young woman dies after receiving two injections at Peradeniya Hospital

A young woman admitted to the Peradeniya teaching hospital last morning with a complaint of abdominal pain, died after being given two injections.

The victim, Sandeepani Madushika Jayaratne (21) was a resident of Potthapitiya in Kadugannawa.

Her mother Maya Indrani and father Y. G. Jayaratne said their daughter who developed abdominal pain was admitted to Ketapitiya divisional hospital and transferred to Peradeniya teaching hospital where she died after having been given two injections by a nurse.

They said soon after the injection, she started crying and complaining of severe pain and vomited before she died.

A senior official said the hospital administration initiated an investigation into the incident but he refused to make any further comments on this death. (J.A.L.Jayasisnghe and Shane Seneviratne)

Innocent people are paying with their lives for the greed and negligence of this bastard minister and his cronies at the NMRA. The least they could have done was to remove these deadly drugs. Can someone name the injection please ? It could be a sudden allergic reaction to the medicine. Did they realise it immediately and give an antidote? Was she taken to the icu and put on a ventilator, etc.

A test dose was not given before administering medicine. Instead of giving antidote to save patient more medicine was given the second time. Enabling is worse than negligence.
