Colombo, April 23 (Daily Mirror) - A man who had allegedly recorded a video of a neighbouring woman while she was bathing and had sent it to one of her friends was ordered to be remanded till May 4 by Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama today.
The suspect, a resident of Maradamuna, was arrested by the Cinnamon Gardens Police following a complaint lodged by a young woman residing on a rental basis in Colombo 7.
Presenting facts before court on behalf of the complainant, officers of the Cinnamon Gardens Police stated that the suspect had been residing on a rental basis in a house adjoining the complainant’s residence in Colombo 7. It was revealed that the suspect had used his mobile phone to secretly record the complainant while she was bathing in her bathroom.
Police further informed court that the suspect had subsequently sent the video footage to a friend of the victim.
It was also revealed that the victim became aware of the incident after being informed by her friend. Thereafter, she had gone to the suspect’s residence, confronted him, verbally abused him and smashed his mobile phone.
Following the incident, the complainant lodged a complaint with the Cinnamon Gardens Police Station. The suspect was thereafter arrested by the police and produced before court.
Having considered the facts, the Magistrate ordered that the suspect be remanded.
