A young female marketing executive from a private sector institution has died after attending a wedding reception in Gonapola, Horana.
The deceased, Manjari Adithaya Fernando (25), was an unmarried resident of Meegoda and worked as a marketing executive at a private company in Batuvita, Horana.
Police said, Manjari had reportedly enjoyed well and danced with others during the wedding reception. However, she had fallen ill and was rushed to the Horana Base Hospital, where she succumbed to her condition.
It was reported that Manjari had been receiving treatment for wheezing and had used an inhaler. She experienced difficulty in breathing after consuming lentil or gram-based meals, which had probably triggered an allergic reaction.
Dr. Panitha Seneviratne, the Judicial Medical Officer (JMO) at the Horana Base Hospital, conducted the postmortem examination. Following the inquiry into the sudden death, it was determined that Manjari's cause of death was heart failure, resulting in difficulty in breathing due to food particles obstructing her trachea.
Moragahahena police are currently conducting further investigations into the incident. (Buddhika Kumarasiri)

This is 21st century but the “ Learned “ Doctors with “five year” degrees and a string of medical titles have NO ANSWERS. Yet no one challenges them for their unsuitability to remain as “ saviours” of human life. A 25 year old girl should never suddenly die like this in this modern times !!!!

Post-mortem examination has shown food in the windpipe. Thus she had chocked to death. Probably ? In a state of party drinks and attack of asthma probably precipitated by a food allergy. Someone should have stood behind her and put his hands around her stomach and pressed a few times to expel the food that has gone into her trachea. Poor training in first aid. Did the place carry a resuscitation equipment. It should be made compulsory to have such equipment and trained people in charge of that place. A tragedy. RIP

My heartfelt condolences. Let's use this tragedy as an opportunity to learn and prevent future incidents. It appears that she may have had underlying issues that were triggered. Nut allergies are unfortunately quite common and can indeed be fatal. Education is crucial in this situation. We need to educate the public on how to recognize, avoid, and prevent allergic reactions.

Thank you Ganesh. Nice to see at least one guy with a sound head. Accidental aspiration (commonly know as choking) is a known cause of mechanical obstruction to breathing and death. Instead of propping conspiracy theories, people in Sri Lanka should be taught Basic Life Support (like in developed countries) so they are able to recognise these events and save lives.
