Colombo, March 05 (Daily Mirror) - Daisy Forrest, also known as 'Daisy Achchi', the grandmother of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s son, Yoshitha Rajapaksa, has been arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

She was arrested after recording a statement by the CID. She is to be produced before the Kaduwela Magistrate's Court.

Earlier, Police named Yoshitha Rajapaksa and Daisy Forrest as suspects before the Kaduwela Magistrate's Court and filed a case against them under the Money Laundering Act.

The public are wondering whether the so called suspect M/s Daisy Forrest understands the meaning of Money Laundering and what the Act connotes. When a person is clueless what this is all about how can the government prosecute because she only knows that some funds have come into her account through some party. The blame should go to the Bank who credited this account because they have not adopted the necessary due diligence when large amounts are credited. That is why the special Money Laudering Unit are trained to ensure that money laudering does not take place according to "KNOW YOUR CUSTOMER POLICY'

Bail. Symbolic arrest, so she would be out in a jiffy. This woman is just a spratt in the big wide world of Rajapaksha corruption and money laundering network. I am afraid the police is still going round the bush, just pretending, and not acting decisively to lock up the big sharks and killer whales. The reason: too may policemen handling these investigations are corrupt and are in Rajapaksha payroll.

Wow. Poor thing. What would she have known. Sometimes the elderly are vulnerable and unsuspecting. They can be taken advantage of. Not sure if this was the case but a grandmother being arrested is very bad on the family who should have protected her.
