Colombo,March 7 (Daily Mirror)- The Government hopes to engage women to man trains and buses in two years time, Minister of Transport Bimal Ratnayke told Parliament today.

"You will see women guards, train engine drivers. We hope to allow women to run school buses. This programme will begin from tomorrow in line with the Universal Women's Day," he said.

Matin don't under-estimate the SriLankan women. They are capable to perform than Indian women who are carrying out driving buses and three wheelers. OfCourse, to handle the trains, need some training that's all.

Why are women not allowed to do these jobs? Young generation of women are very tough and independent. Surely, they would do a better job. But teach your men to respect the authority of women who do these jobs and not be perverts. Already men in public or public transport can't see a skirt without acting stupid.

This concept is good where public have sitting accomodation in trains and buses. But with our buses and trains jam packed it is unavoidable when males and females will have to travel in very awkward positions for lack of space and there is every possibility that these female employees will point fingers that the males are abusing them. So it will be more trouble to be sorted out. Sometime ago we had carriages for womens comfort but only some went in these carriages but most of the women totally boycotted these carriages!!!!! why!!!
