Woman found dead on flight arriving from Riyadh

Colombo, Feb 21 (Daily Mirror) - A Sri Lankan passenger was found dead on a flight that arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) this morning from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The deceased has been identified as 49-year-old Manik Appuhamilage Mallika.

Katunayake Airport Police suspect that she was employed as a domestic worker in Saudi Arabia.

Authorities are conducting further investigations, and the body has been sent to the Negombo General Hospital.

I was on this flight (UL 0266, SriLankan Airlines) this morning, sitting just two rows behind this woman. Throughout the flight, she repeatedly requested assistance and voiced complaints, but the air hostesses continuously ignored her. Their neglect persisted until she fainted right before landing. The majority of the passengers witnessed this shocking indifference. SriLankan Airlines must be held accountable for this negligence, and a proper investigation is needed.

Thank you for your revelations. The attitude of Sri Lanka airline crew towards expats specifically those who appear to be from the low paid jobs , is very bad , These crew treat them like unwanted species sometimes disrespectfully. If any passenter is having some discomfort they normally call for a Doctor among the passengers to check the passenger, the crew is also trained to handle such medical emergencies. But in this case they didn't seem to care.

Shezst, thank you for sharing your first hand account of what happened. Regrettably, Sri Lankan Airlines hostesses are very arrogant and rude towards fellow Sri Lankan passengers, especially if the passengers don't speak in English. The crew could have alerted emergency services ahead of landing, and at least done their best to make the passenger's last few moments more comfortable or at least attempted to resuscitate her with first aid at minimum. Hope that the airline compensates her family for the crews gross misconduct and negligence.
