Colombo, Feb. 24 (Daily Mirror) - Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama today imposed a fine of Rs. 1,000 on a female suspect who pleaded guilty to video recording on her mobile phone, her father giving evidence from the dock when he appeared before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court in connection with a case.
The Keselwatta Police informed court that the woman had been seated in the open court of the Colombo Additional Magistrate’s Court No. 2 when she recorded a video of her father while he was giving evidence from the dock in relation to a case.
Investigators further stated that a police officer attached to the court, who witnessed the incident, took the suspect into custody along with the mobile phone and referred her to the court police post, following which the Keselwatta Police filed charges against her.
Appearing for the suspect, counsel submitted that his client had recorded the video out of ignorance and was prepared to plead guilty to the offence. Thereafter, the Magistrate imposed the fine of Rs. 1,000 on the suspect.
Court also warned the woman to refrain from committing such illegal acts in the future and ordered her to delete the said video from her phone.
