Woman arrested for obstructing police duties as shown on viral video

Colombo, Nov 1. (Daily Mirror) - A woman who was seen arguing with the traffic police while obstructing their duties, as shown in a viral video on social media, has been arrested.

Police said a video had gone viral on social media showing a woman arguing and obstructing duties of police officers by calling herself as a sister of a Senior DIG, when her vehicle was stopped for a traffic offence.

Police said the incident occurred on the Kotugoda-Udugampola road yesterday where the woman had defied police orders to stop the car for a traffic offence, and police had given chase and stopped her in the Udugampola area. She then had engaged in an argument with the traffic police while obstructing their duties, as seen in the viral video on social media.

The woman had again driven away defying police orders and she was arrested at Polwatte junction and handed over to the Gampaha police station.

Police said the woman has no connection to the Senior DIG as claimed by her.

She is to be produced before the Gampaha Magistrate's Court today.
