’’Will position Sri Lanka as “Sri Lanka of Humanity” on global stage: President

Colombo, March 8 (Daily Mirror) - The Sri Lankan nation will be branded before the world as a nation that has taken up the banner of humanity among those who support and bless it in any conflict that arises in the world, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake said today.

The President said that Sri Lanka is not only rooted domestically but also holds its place on the international stage.

He made these remarks this morning at the National People’s Power (NPP) International Women’s Day celebration held at the P.D. Sirisena Stadium in Colombo.

"What kind of government do we have? Our government is not only rooted domestically but also holds its place on the international stage. We are a small nation in terms of land, not a state with a vast economy. We are not a technologically advanced country with powerful weaponry. Yet, we are building this nation. Our aspiration is to make Sri Lanka a country that stands foremost in humanity on the global stage," he said.

"In every conflict or crisis in the world, there are those who fight, those who provide support and those who offer their blessings for war. Yet, there is a nation that, in the face of war, carries the banner of humanity forward. That nation is the Sri Lankan people and this is the message

we share with the world.

"There are developed countries in the world with extensive facilities, where people often inherit a life of material comfort. However, the position we take on the global stage is different. No matter what economic challenges arise or what difficulties society faces, Sri Lanka carries the identity of a nation where humanity thrives, and this is the message we bring to the world," he said.

The President stressed the need to design policies and actions that protect, empower and uplift every individual, ensuring that no one is left behind in society’s progress.

"It comes down to how we truly recognise and value every segment of society. How are children treated? How are mothers treated? How are the elderly respected? How those economically disadvantaged are supported? How do we ensure compassion and solidarity for people caught in natural disasters or other hardships? These are the critical questions. That is why the real task before us is clear," he said.

"We are positioning our country on the global stage as “Sri Lanka of Humanity”. In such a nation, humanity must guide every action: children, women, economically disadvantaged groups and communities divided by culture or circumstance should all be treated with compassion, equity and solidarity. It is in the process of building this humane state that we focus on our children and women. In this state, women should be able to travel freely without fear, girls must never face inevitable abuse and no woman should be subjected to violence at home or in the workplace. In a nation guided by humanity, women should not live with

insecurity anywhere in the country. We are creating a state where every person is recognised as a human being," he added.
