Cololmbo, August 09 (Daily Mirror) - Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka today announced that he will contest the Presidential election as an independent candidate.

Earlier today Fonseka resigned as the Chairman of the SJB.

People's "blindness to history" is a worldwide phenomenon!!! The Buddhist monks of Sri Lanka already knew this, which is why they wrote the various chronicles of the island! The phenomenon continues into the modern day! SL is a "good" example of this too! 30 years of terror war, almost forgotten! The man who was able to end it with his strategy and brave soldiers, almost forgotten! Yes, even worse, the man who enabled people to make a new start is sometimes being viciously insulted today!!! I stick to my opinion that Sarath Fonseka would also be an excellent president, who stands out pleasantly from the political mediocrity of the other presidential candidates!!! I admire him for the courage and leadership during one of the worst times in our history. I now feel so sad and disappointed that he is attempting to erase that position he has gained by almost sacrificing his life. Sarath Fonseka was good to lead the army when there is a war. Because his mentality is to fight and destroy the enemy at any cost. But that kind of character won’t work in the normal life where you need patience, vision, ability to work with a group and work in any capacity. After his retirement from Army, he fought with his own members in his own party Democratic National Party he created in 2012. He fought with Rajapasha’s who brought him up to the top in the Army. He fought with Sirisena who gave him complete presidential pardon and acquitted of all charges in 2015, restoring his civil rights. He switches side leaving Ranil who supported him through out his political journey. Now he has decided to go against Premadasa who gave him the highest position in the party and backed him over Harin. This time he will be the looser and will end up his journey with utter disgrace.

I know its people, its history, its culture, the philosophy of Buddhism, its politics, its leading politicians and the extraordinary achievements that Fonseka has made for Sri Lanka, in contrast to all the mediocre competing three main candidates (Ranil, Sajith, Anura Kumara)!!!
