Colombo, April 11 (Daily Mirror) - An employee of the Wildlife Conservation Department assigned for duty in the Wanathawilluwa-Thewanuwara electric fence had been trampled to death by a rogue elephant on his way back after duty.
The victim Warnakulasuriyage Amila Udara, 34, was a resident of Wanathawilluwa area and a minor employee of the Wildlife Department office in the area.
Police said he with several others after night duty was on his way home when the rogue elephant hit him. Others who witnessed the incident said he took to his heels, attempted to escape the jumbo when it gave chase, but he stumbled on the ground only to be trampled to death.
Wanathawilluwa Police are conducting further investigations.
