Nobody cares when humans are killed in Sri Lanka by these elephants. Police will come when elephants are killed, but they do not care about humans who are harmed and killed by the elephants. People who care for animals more than humans are not humans. These people are evil. The government in Sri Lanka must give these people weapons to protect themselves from these elephants. Don't come with all these excuses to justify these elephant attacks. These animals are very smart and know what they are doing. They enjoy killing humans. Elephants who kill humans must be killed.  It is unbelievable that in Sri Lanka, these elephants can walk free after killing humans.

Rubbish. Elephants don't enjoy it. Most often they are reacting to injury or some other act by the humans. What are elephants supposed to do when day after day they are left with less and less territory to access food? Humans are the main cause of deforestation, endangered and extinct species, loss of habitat, carbon emissions, etc., because there are TOO MANY of us in the world.

Tourism has got boosted (according to the government) as they come to see SL wildlife. So, there must be a fund as a Tax from Hotels in such areas to protect wildlife and to compensate for this sort of destruction done by elephants. Such destructive male elephants have to be tamed if continue to trouble even after chasing out.

Encroaching the habitat of the elephants by the people is not a valid excuse anymore. These attacks are taking place outside their usual habitat. The severe drought has limited the availability of food for these animals. A number African countries are seriously considering reducing the numbers of their elephant population to deal with such crisis. Some countries have a planned culling of wild animals to manageable numbers. In Australia thousands of wild donkeys, kangaroos and camels are culled each year, they consume acreages of the vegetation in the country. Some farmers in Sri Lanka have given up farming due to the conflict with elephants, peacocks, monkeys and of course thieves.

Let's bring these people living in the elephant migration routes into or around Colombo. We have so much technology and job opportunities here, replace the sleepy officers with these vibrant, eager people. Income will be higher and houses will be much more equipped. Why fight with elephants? We talk about teachings but hardly practiced any of it. We'll see how we feel when other "people" come to live with us, sharing is caring. If we expect the fauna to tolerate, we must be much better to host our fellow kin.

@VJ; Culling elephants is being done unofficially by the encroachers of forests with government patrons by their henchmen. Eg. Chandrasena clearing Willpaththuwa buffer zone and Walsapugala sanctuary encroached with farms. IF forests are left, without encroaching, no issues like this and the destructive and aggressive elephants, particularly elephants can be captured and auctioned to have a fund with the tax on tourism fund to compensate farmers and villagers.
