Colombo, August 8 (Daily Mirror) - Department of Wildlife has permitted the provision of indigenous treatments to the wild elephant popularly known as “Kandalame Hedakaraya” which has been under treatment of wildlife veterinary surgeons for more than four months.
The wild elephant that received gunshot injuries had been lying in the Kandalama tank.
However, a leading businessman in the area had undertaken to bear the expenses of indigenous treatments provided by a renowned traditional Indigenous Medical
Practitioner Gamini Karunaratne from Giridara area. He commenced treatments on Thursday (07).
He has collected herbs from the nearby jungles and dressed the infected wounds on the jumbo's limbs under the supervision of the veterinary surgeons.
The jumbo has shown an improvement owing to the treatment provided by the wildlife veterinary surgeons, but it has again lain in the water. The indigenous medical practitioner has undertaken to provide treatments to cure it.
He said he would first provide treatments for the injuries and, judging from the response of the jumbo, proceed with other treatments.
