Colombo, Feb 11 (Daily Mirror) - Major General Chandana Wickramasinghe of the Gajaba Regiment formally assumed duties as the 66th Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army at the Army Headquarters.
Born on June 6, 1970, Major General Wickramasinghe pursued his early education at Vijaya College, Matale, and later at Dharmaraja College, Kandy, where he nurtured his leadership skills and academic excellence. Demonstrating a commitment to national service from an early age, he enlisted in the Sri Lanka Army on January 20, 1989, under Course No. 31 at the Indian Military Academy (IMA). Following his rigorous training, he was commissioned on October 5, 1990, and was posted to the prestigious Gajaba Regiment.
Throughout his 35-year tenure, Major General Wickramasinghe has amassed a wealth of experience, holding numerous command, staff, and instructor appointments.
The senior officer has actively contributed to liberating the motherland from terrorism. In recognition of his bravery and exemplary service, Major General Wickramasinghe has been decorated with the Rana Wickrama and Rana Sura medals. Prior to this appointment, he served as the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army.
