Wharf clerk arrested for soliciting bribe

Colombo, August 29 (Daily Mirror) -A wharf clerk of a private firm registered with the Customs Department has been arrested for soliciting a bribe for releasing a container.

He was arrested following a complaint lodged by a businessman from Korathota, Kaduwela.

The suspect had mediated to give a bribe of Rs. 500,000 to Customs officials and accepted a bribe of Rs. 330,000.

The suspect is to be produced before the Colombo Magistrate's Court.

no use catching the wharf clerk, what should have been done was using the wharf clerk to catch the customs officers, but all this media circus about the wharf clerk did is let the customs officers get away with it..
