The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) said yesterday it had documents to prove that the United National Party (UNP) had endorsed the formation of the SJB right from the beginning, General Secretary Ranjith Madduma Bandara said yesterday.

“Mr. Premadasa has a hand-written document given to him by UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe giving him all powers to form the new alliance and to contest the general election,” he said. “The UNP working committee endorsed the formation of the alliance and appointing Mr. Premadasa as its leader and myself as the general secretary. It is in such a scenario that we are being attacked,” he said.

Mr. Bandara said those who criticise us are the ones who have a deal with the government. They are spreading lies especially in a situation where the SJB is in the process of building a powerful force to confront the government,” he said.

These comments came from the SJB in the wake of a statement issued by UNP General Secretary Akila Viraj Kariyawasm on Wednesday saying action will be taken against those UNPers who fail to support the candidates who contest under the elephant symbol and the comments made by former MP Vajira Abeywardene that those UNPers will lose their membership of the UNP no sooner they sign the SJB nomination papers. Then why the constitution of SJB could not be given to the UNP when requested at the meeting held KJ’s office. SJB is a political party it is not an alliance.

Ranjith Maddumabandara was the man who manipulated Monaragala district parliamentary election UNP list in 2010 for him to enter the parliament. we are not fools to believe what he says
