Western Province Governor denies knowledge on container clearance

Colombo, January 29 (Daily Mirror) - Western Province Governor Hanif Yusoof today denied any knowledge of the 323 containers which were said to have been cleared from the Colombo port without subjecting them to inspection.

“These containers do not belong to me or to the company which I have founded. A false accusation is being made against me,” Governor Yusuf told the media.

The denial came after both the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) and the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), earlier during the day, accused Governor Yusoof of getting containers cleared without subjecting them to inspection.

He is still at this company as owner and functions as governor. This is illegal as governor post has some rules. Opposition should take legal action against this fellow. He is under the radar for massive earnings made by his company during pandemic when other companies failed to do. Investigate that too.

Don’t talk without knowing the facts, he is the founder of Exo Lanka but right now he works only in an advisory role. He is above all this, he is not a corrupt person, a real down to earth gentlemen. Have done a lot of forwarding through his company while he was heading expo he may have backed the NPP just like so many other business leaders do with other parties but I can say for a fact he will never ever stoop to these levels he is being accused of.

Governor Hanif Yusoof; You are the Governor of Western Province in which customs are situated. You are a businessman used to container movements. You have been a supporter of NPP. This clearance was instructed by a Deputy Minister who publicly admitted of having instructed the customs. To say that you had no knowledge on clearance of 323 containers is not very convincing.

They are jealous that the Governor put on that spectacular Drone show, at this expense, at the Galle Face Green. The Customs have already clarified and issued a Press statement that none of those 323 Containers were destined for EXPO LANKA, the company that he had founded.

He did not spend money on the Drone Show but that was an investment made to earn more money, like getting 320 plus containers released without inspection and more goodies to come in billions. While the public attention is drawn into Rajapaksha arrests, the real frauds are taking place which are being covered up with most lies being told to public every day.

If the governor still has management involvement with any company, that is definitely a conflict of interest. People will lose faith in AKD if this type of conflicts happens. Should be big a part of Clean SL Concept.

Governor Hanif has undoubted integrity. With the interactions I have had with him officially and personally, I have found him to be a good gent and his business transactions have been straight forward.Doesn't bend to please the politicians. He means what he says. Doubtful whether he had an hand in clearing those containers. On inquiry, found that the govt wanted to clear a backlog stuck in Port for over three weeks.

Many have think they are experts in talking. For you guys expo Lanka is a export based company which provides freight and logistic services to the container sending from Sri Lanka. They don't do importing. Second this company was sold to Japanese company Back in 2014. It's true he founded it but now it belongs to japanese firm called SG holdings Global. So don't just post anything without even petty of knowledge. He is a very good person who brought dollars to the country.
