Wesley Edge Science to Clinch U16 Rugby Tens Title

By: Shamseer Jaleel

Wesley College won the All Island Under-16 Elite Rugby Tens 2025, edging out Science College 5-3 in a thriller at the St. Peter’s College ground in Bambalapitiya.

Science put over their solitary penalty in the initial half, while the Double Blues scored their only try in the later half, which was a questionable one, as the ball appeared to be dropped by the player who had no control over it before it was touched down.

Mohamed Shibly of Wesley was adjudged Player of the Tournament. Wesley defeated Lumbini in the semifinal, while Science got the better of Trinity 12-5, which went into extra time after the game ended 7 apiece after full time. Joes accounted for the Plate segment, while Vidyartha took home the Bowl trophy, leaving DS to claim the Shield trophy.

Day 1 of the tournament took place at both Ananda and St. Peter’s Grounds, while the final day’s proceedings took place at Bambalapitiya. The tournament was sponsored by Uswatte Chirpy Chips.
