Wednesdays off for private, international students

Colombo, March 17 (Daily Mirror) - Students of international schools, private universities, and vocational training centers across the country will now have Wednesdays off, following a new government directive aimed at conserving fuel.

The move comes as part of broader efforts to manage the ongoing energy crisis while ensuring essential services continue uninterrupted.

The Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education Ministry has asked all affected institutions to adjust their schedules and ensure compliance with the decision. The ministry said that the midweek break is a temporary measure designed to support national energy-saving initiatives.

Ministry Secretary Nalaka Kaluwewa, urged schools and institutions to coordinate with students and staff so that learning continues effectively despite the revised schedule.

The decision has sparked discussions among parents and students about how online classes, extracurricular activities, and academic deadlines will be affected by the midweek break.
