Weather warnings as South-Western monsoon active

Showers are likely to occur in the South-Western parts of the island, with the activation of the South-Western monsoon, the Department of Meteorology said. 

Intermittent showers can be expected in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central Provinces as well as the Galle and Matara districts, the Department said. Heavy rainfall of over 50 to 75 mm can also be expected in several areas.

Meanwhile, the naval and fishing communities are warned against venturing out into the sea, owing to rough seas and increased wind speeds in coastal areas from Trincomalee, Mannar, Kankasanathurai, Puttalam, Colombo, Galle to Hambantota.
