’We will forcibly attend committee meeting’: Dayasiri

SLFP MP Dayasiri Jayasekera today threatened that his parliamentary group members will attend committee meetings by force if they are not given representation in these committees.

“We have made a request that members of our groups be appointed to committees, both from the ruling party and the Opposition, but it has been turned down. We will now attend committee meetings by force,” he said.

Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardene who responded said he has no issues in appointing members from all Opposition parties to the business or other committees if the Leader of thr Opposition agrees.

Leader of thr Opposition Sajith Premadasa said however the matter should be settled by the ruling party.

“The SJB has been in the opposition since the 2020 general elections and we are not willing to reduce our representation to accommodate other parties who have crossed over to the Opposition later,” he said (Yohan Perera and Ajith Siriwardana)

If those in the parliament were elected from the governing party or the opposition they have to be allocated time and place by those respective groups. Just because they left from one group and joined another does not mean the 2nd group has to oblige.

Neither the SLFP nor the Dayasiri comrades are classified as an important party or person respectively, so Dayasiri and his former boss can at least try a way to win the elections. Where is the betel symbol confiscated from Rajapaksa? What happened really?
