Wayamba University gets new Chancellor

President Ranil Wickremesinghe has appointed the founder of the SANASA Movement, Dr. P.A. Kiriwandeniya for the post of Chancellor of the Wayamba University of Sri Lanka for a period of 5 years with Immediate Effect, the President’s Media said.

Now the quality of the selection of all academic posts including VCs and chachellor is gone down for the needs of politicians.... university is an semi government institute..it must have freedom and leverage to select the VCs and chancellors on the merits of academic achievement and credentials..why should wait for politicians do this ... executive presidents shouldn't misuse this privilege for their own politics .leave those academic traditions and customs to appreciate the hardworking of university academics..I wonder why some good academics are leaving the country now ? Politics and dirty politics destroy every good things in public sphere of this beautiful country..

It started with the goat appointing the TU monk as the Chancellor of the prestigious University of Colombo. Now the goat's predecessor is following this trend. These highly academic posts should go to academics who have achieved the greatest heights of academic proficiency.

The appointment to be given to a very senior Acadamics or a outstanding professional with proper qualification. SriLankan it has become a practice to appoint trade union leaders , artists and clargy.

Politics has destroyed the academic fabrics of this beautiful country..can you expect in old days any university staff accept this appointed they would go for a strike till the remove this appointment...now most of dons are politically appointed and even they don't want to open their mouths at all..all this make good academics to leave the country.. Now Ranil and his cohort can teach in the universities as well.. What is wrong these people.? Due this mentality of this discrimination this country suffer

Dr. Kiriwandeniya is a veteran social worker with huge amounts of practical experience. He is a doer. Wyamba University will immensely get benefits from him. Its a good move! Better late than never !
