Water supply suspended in security quarters of MR’s Wijerama residence

Colombo, February 13 (Daily Mirror) - Water supply has been disconnected in a section of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa's official Wijerama residence where security guards are stationed. The disconnection is reportedly due to unpaid water bills amounting to Rs. 429,000, officials confirmed.

This amount has to be paid by the Presidential Secretariat, as one of the perks offered to a former president, as stated in the constitution.

"Since the security to a former president is allocated by the government, it is the responsibility of the state to pay for all such bills including water and electricity," Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa's Spokesperson, Manoj Gamage told the Daily Mirror.

A spokesman for the Water Board said that the water supply to the area where the former president resides remains unaffected.

He said that the unpaid bill amounts to Rs. 429,000, accumulating since last October.

The spokesman clarified that the disruption does not impact the former president or other staff at the residence.
