Warm weather advisory issued for five districts

Colombo, October 3 (Daily Mirror) - The Natural Hazards Early Warning Centre of the Department of Meteorology has issued a warm weather advisory for Polonnaruwa, Batticaloa, Ampara, Monaragala and Hambantota districts.

Residents are advised to take necessary precautions to reduce the impact of the warm conditions.

The Department explained that the heat index forecast is calculated using relative humidity and maximum temperature, reflecting the temperature felt on the body rather than the actual maximum temperature. The forecast is generated daily for the following 24-hour period using global numerical weather prediction data.

The advisory further noted that the effects of the heat index on the human body have been prepared in consultation with the Ministry of Health and Indigenous Medical Services.
