Colombo, April 16 (Daily Mirror) - The “Walk of Peace” pilgrimage will be held across Sri Lanka from April 21 to 28, drawing local and international attention as a major spiritual event centred on faith, compassion and coexistence.
Organisers said the week-long walk aims to spread a message of peace across cities and villages, bringing together monks, devotees and the public in a shared journey of reflection and unity.
A notable feature of this year’s programme is the participation of Aloka, a globally recognised service dog, whose presence is expected to add a symbolic dimension to the event. Organisers said Aloka’s involvement reflects the broader message that harmony and compassion extend to all living beings.
The walk will commence on April 21, following the arrival of monks and participants, with the first stop at the Attanagalla Raja Maha Viharaya. The pilgrimage will then proceed to the Sri Maha Bodhi, one of the most sacred sites in the Buddhist world.
Led by Most Venerable Pannakara Thero, the monks will carry a sapling from the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi, symbolising Sri Lanka’s rich spiritual heritage throughout the journey.
From April 22, the walk will move southward through key locations including Dambulla, Matale, Kandy, Belligammana, Tholangamuwa and Yakkala before concluding on April 28.
The final stretch will begin at the Kelaniya Raja Maha Vihara and proceed to Independence Square.
Organisers said the Walk of Peace will combine reflection, dialogue and silent unity, offering participants an opportunity to reconnect and promote a message of compassion.

April 22 – Dambulla
April 23 – Matale
April 24 – Kandy
April 25 – Belligammana
