Colombo, August 22 (Daily Mirror) - United National Party’s loyalist Navin Dissanayake condemned the arrest of his party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe, having been taken into police custody on Friday, for misusing state funds for his spouse’s visit.

Taking to X, formerly ‘Twitter’, the former sports minister took on the government lashing out them saying, “I totally condemm the arrest of @RW_SRILANKA by the CID. It is an unwarranted and highly politicized decision that will come back to haunt this vindictive and vicious government. SHAME”.

Doesn't look the arrest was a political move. Hence criticizing the government is unfair Let the courts decide. Until such time I would encourage unnecessary comments from all the citizens of this country.

If Navin D is justifying RW's actions, he is no different from the corrupt lot. This has nothing to do with politics, although he is bringing it up as "vicious and vindictive". His father would have sided with the CID, he was a gentleman.

Why vidictive? Did he break the law, if he did then the consequences follow. Hitherto, politicians could break the law willy-nilly, and they taking the law into their hand, change the goal posts, making themselves above the law, but the poor voters are always subservient to the law. Time this pretentious godly assumptions destroyed. NPP Government, you are doing a great job. Continue with it, the majority of the public are supporting the government's stance. Only thos acolytes and ducks fed by corrupt politicians will be upset. Let them be!

Does he think RW is above the law? Yes, there was a day when they acted that way, today things are different, everyone is under the rule of law, and no one is above it.

If returning on an official visit, it is not possible for the President of a country to accept an invitation from a reputed University to participate at a convocation, then hereafter we the People MUST keep an eye on AKD and on all his Ministers' movements while out of the country on official visits. They will be hauled before courts if they visit friends, go shopping, give speeches at political party functions, stay at friend's places overnight, go for dinner with friends, etc, etc. while on official visits. They have to bear in mind STRICTLY that what is allowed is only the official visit, staying at the allowed hotel and thereafter back home pronto!. They must remember that the 'eye in the sky' will catch and arrest them someday, if anything else happens, since the 'RW EPISODE' has set an example for others to follow!

Stupid or ignorant? Misappropriating Rs 16M is like shopping? In a bankrupt country, whilst poor people were starving. Elite society Royal Boys etc can’t understand these things. That’s ok, the country is not be governed by them anymore.
