Verité Research unveils Sri Lanka’s grant data worth USD 8.9 Bn

Colombo, Feb 13 (Daily Mirror) - Since its independence, Sri Lanka has been a recipient of bilateral and multilateral grants, which have supported a range of initiatives such as knowledge transfers, health and education improvements, infrastructure development and vital humanitarian assistance.

However, detailed information on these grants has not been widely accessible.

To fill this gap, Verité Research has developed an interactive report visualizing data on all formal grants received by the Sri Lankan Government between 1973 and 2023—a 50-year span.

The report offers an in-depth analysis of 2,237 foreign grant commitments totalling USD 8.9 billion over five decades. It highlights key donors, priority sectors, notable projects and trends in grant receipts.

The data for this comprehensive study was provided by the External Resources Department (ERD) of Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Finance.

According to the data, Japan and the UN have been the largest providers of grants to Sri Lanka, with China and India significantly increasing their grant assistance since 2010.
