The vaccination rollout which commenced in the Kurunegala district today will be extended to two more districts such as Galle and Matara from tomorrow, Army Commander General Shavendra Silva said.
He told Daily Mirror that people living in the respective districts will be inoculated with the 500,000 doses of Sinopharm vaccines, that arrived in Sri Lanka today.
"The vaccination drive is carried out in selected areas, as per the recommendations of the Epidemiology Unit," he said.
The Army Commander added that the decision had been taken on the directives of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
Thus far, the vaccination drive in Sri Lanka was limited to citizens of the Western Province, which was had a higher number of cases since the disease outbreak. The rollout has now been extended to three more districts. (Sheain Fernandopulle)

500,000 is a drop in the ocean. Its good to show the authorities are doing something but not enough to do any significant improvement in the situation.

500,000 is a damned lie. Only 125,000 will be rolled out to these districts. That is sufficient to inoculate about 62,500 persons. Compared to the population in these districts, it is just a tear drop. Who is trying to fool whom?
