Urgent investigations into death of housemaid in Singapore: SLBFE

The Sri Lankan Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) has been instructed to conduct an urgent investigation into the death of the Sri Lankan domestic worker who fell from an apartment in Singapore, its Chairman A.A.M. Hilmi Aziz said.

"Immediately upon hearing of this tragic incident, necessary arrangements are being made with the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Singapore to bring the body of the dead woman named Nadika Dilhani Fernando to Sri Lanka.

The body will be brought back on May 20," he added. The bureau said the employee was registered with the bureau on November 18 last year and has been abroad since then, but no complaint has been made to the bureau or the Sri Lankan embassy there that there are problems at her workplace after she went abroad.

However, the bureau informs that a full investigation will be conducted on the reported information and necessary steps will be taken in this regard. (Chaturanga Pradeep Samarawickrama)
