Train services on upcountry railway lines were disrupted due to adverse weather and train services on the Main Line limited to Rambukkana from Colombo Fort, Sri Lanka Railways Station Masters' Union (SLRSMU) said.
They said because of the adverse weather conditions in the country, train services were disrupted and most damage was caused to the upcountry railway line. They said the railway lines were distrupted due to flooding of railway tracks, landslides, large rock collapses, and falling trees.
It is reported that it will take several days to restore the railway lines in the affected areas.
"Two landslides have occurred on the Colombo Fort-Badulla main line between Rambukkana and Kadigamuwa railway stations, Meanwhile, a part of the Kadigamuwa railway station has also been affected by a landslide. Several sections of the railway line between Ihala Kotte and Balana railway stations have been affected by landslides," the SLRSMU said.
Restoring work is being carried out expeditiously by the officers and employees of the relevant divisions of the Railway Department despite the obstacles and adverse weather conditions.
Due to the overflowing of the Deduru Oya, the railway line near the Madurankuliya substation and the road near the Bangadeniya railway station were completely submerged.
The Railway Department has restricted train services on the Puttalam route from Colombo Fort to Chilaw until the water recedes. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
