Upcountry line disrupted as track car engine derails twice

By Ranjith Rajapaksa

Colombo, Sept. 5 (Daily Mirror) - Railway traffic along the Upcountry Line was disrupted for nearly four hours today after the engine of a track car carrying a crane for railway repairs derailed on two separate occasions.

The incident first occurred near the 105 ½ mile post between Hatton and Rosella railway stations, railway officials said. When the derailed engine was being moved towards Hatton, it went off the tracks again near the Hatton railway station.

Railway workers later managed to re-rail the engine, and train services were restored by 2 p.m.

The derailments severely affected passengers travelling on the Odyssey, Udarata Menike, and Podi Menike trains along the line.
