Underworld nurtured with political blessings for last two, three decades: Minister

Colombo, Feb 21 (Daily Mirror) - The underworld was nurtured with the blessings of the politicians for the last two, three decades, Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala said today.

He told Parliament that after the NPP government came to power the underwolrd gets no political protection unlike in the past.

"No NPP MP or Minister maintains connections with the underwolrd," he said.

The Minister said suspects in connection with crimes committed two or three decades ago are still to be arrested, but suspects in recent crimes have been arrested within hours.

He said the government was taking all actions to combat the underworld and that some actions cannot be revealed due to security reasons.

Since you are saying there is no political backing for the underworld from the present government why don't you form a special squad and arrest all the main culprits and the politicians who supported them, you'll have the power now without giving excuses spring into action I'm sure you must be having all the underworld figure details and who's supporting who just do your job properly.

What has this self righteous government done so far other than simply blame everything on Rajapakshes and previous governments. As corrupt as they may be you cannot blame everything on them; and you came to power promising that you would reveal all that were in the sacred files you held. What happened to those files?
