Underworld activities have infiltrated public security institutions: President

Colombo, Feb 20 (Daily Mirror) - Investigations have disclosed that underworld activities have infiltrated certain individuals within official institutions responsible for public security, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake revealed.

The President made these remarks during the first meeting of the Ministerial Consultative Committee on Defence of the 10th Parliament, held in Parliament under his Chairmanship, the Parliament's Media Division said.

He further stated that all necessary measures will be taken to completely eradicate the underworld in the future, while also acknowledging that this process will take some time.

During the discussions held over the security of court complexes in the country, Minister of Justice and National Integration, Attorney-at-Law Harshana Nanayakkara stated that a proposal has been prepared over the security of the court complexes and measures will be taken in the future to increase the security of the court complexes by using modern technology by examining all the parties including lawyers.

Mr. President. many say this underworld is connected to the law enforcement and politicians. Your approach of using snail pace normal law (which is handled by security officials and judges lot of whom are comnpromised0 will nor solve this problem. Like Lee Quan Yew did you have to take extraordinary actions to solve this system which is ,deep-seated and well established for more than 50 years

Mr President you may have brought a political change in Sri Lanka but not the culture that has been created for 45 years of corruption and ruthless culture so for this you may have to behave like Lee kuwan yu of Singapore. You have to execute the drug dealers and corrupted people to bring back Sri Lanka into civilised society. Sorry unless this happens forget about it. Yes Mr President while you are trying to clean Sri Lanka , dirty people want to ensure that it remains dirty , but you have the support of majority of people who want to clean it. so , the people are looking upto you. Entrust the STF personnel the task of eliminating drug dealers and the underworld gangs. For that matter absorb part of the Armed forces into STF, rather than allowing them to be confined to the camps especially in North East who are engaged in running restaurants etc .that doesn't justify their capabilities.
