Colombo, Jan 17 (Daily Mirror) - Former Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia, Udayanga Weeratunga, who was remanded over the assault of a neighbor, was released on bail by the Nugegoda Magistrate’s Court.

He was arrested by the Mirihana Police in connection with an incident involving the assault of a neighbor on January 10 and was remanded until today.

The Magistrate ordered Weeratunga to be released on a Rs. 10,000 cash bail and two personal bails.

Pitty many people don’t understand the law in place at the moment. He was arrested for an incident with his neighbor, not for any other deals. So if anyone else can get a bail, same applies to UW. It’s the law. If we don’t like it, then first these laws must be amended in the parliament which in fact will take time. Don’t except these to happen in few months when a new government come into power.
