US tax move sparks need for govt response: Ranil

Colombo, April 16 (Daily Mirror) - While highlighting that the US Reciprocal taxes had created a fresh economic crisis as Sri Lanka will have to find ways and means to settle its debts by 2028, former President Ranil Wickremesinghe said the government should come out with a plan to face the situation.

"Sri Lanka's exports will decline even if the Reciprocal tax level is reduced to 25 percent. It will have to generate funds to start setting its debts by 2028 as per the debt restructuring programme. The Government will have to treat this as an emergency situation and should come out with a plan to face the situation," Wickremesinghe said in a statement.
