UPDATE: Fire reported in Sapugaskanda oil refinery



Colombo, September (Daily Mirror) - A fire has erupted at Tank 2 (slug tank) of the Sapugaskanda oil refinery this evening, a senior official from the refinery confirmed.

According to the official, the fire started due to a welding spark during repair work on the tank. The refinery’s internal team was unable to control the blaze, prompting the Kolonnawa and Colombo Municipal fire brigades to be called in to assist and prevent the fire from spreading.

The official added that the fire has begun to spread, and authorities are taking urgent measures to contain it.

The Colombo Municipal fire brigade confirmed that several fire trucks were dispatched to the scene.
