The UNP disciplinary committee headed by Minister Tilak Marapana has recommended the suspension of party membership of ministers Sujeewa Senasinghe and Ajith P. Perera, Daily Mirror learns.
The committee met on Thursday and decided to make recommendations to this effect. Accordingly, General Secretary Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam wrote to Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe as the party leader to decide whether to suspend them or not.
According to a top UNP source, it is now up for the party leader to decide on it.
Earlier, the UNP served show-cause letters to these two ministers over allegations that they were critical of the party, its leadership and policies.
However, they countered the allegations and shot back Mr. Kariyawasam in writing. The source said that similar action would be taken against former Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe shortly. (Kelum Bandara)
