UNHRC adopts resolution rejecting religious hatred

The Human Rights Council yesterday adopted a resolution strongly condemning and rejecting any advocacy and manifestation of religious hatred, including the recent public and premeditated acts of desecration of the Holy Quran.

The resolution entitled “Countering religious hatred constituting incitement to discrimination, hostility or violence” was adopted with a vote of 28 in favour, 12 against and seven abstentions.

Sri Lanka was unable to vote even though it was a co-sponsor of this resolution, and intervened on behalf of the resolution during the debate.

All those 12 countries that voted against the resolutions are the ones who, most probably, incite religious disharmony amongst the peace-loving communities. Therefore, competent authorities must consider those countries holding membership in the UN to be kipped from the UN membership immediately without delay, making the UN a trusted
