UN Human rights Chief meets NPP leaders



Colombo, June 26 (Daily Mirror) - UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk met with the leaders of the National People's Power (NPP) at the JVP headquarters in Battaramulla where they dscussed the repealing of the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) and look into the missing persons.

They discussed matters of future actions on ensuring human rights, repealing the PTA and matters related to missing persons.

The NPP leaders emphasised that the NPP government will not leave room for the recurrence of racism or incidents of human right violations.

They have also emphasised on looking into missing persons and future actions to be taken to act as Sri Lankans.

UN Resident Coordinator in Sri Lanka Marc-André Franche, the Chief of the Asia-Pacific Region of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Rory Mungoven and UN representatives attended the meeting.

JVP general secretary Tilvin Silva, NPP general secretary Dr. Nihal Abeysinghe, Minister Bimal Ratnayake, Minister Upali Pannilage and Minister Saroja Paulraj were also present.
