Colombo, Jan. 27 (Daily Mirror) - The Urban Development Authority (UDA) is set to launch the “Frolic Island Recreational Hub” project along both banks of the Diyawanna Oya, aimed at creating a major public leisure and recreation zone in the Battaramulla area.
As part of the project, nine land plots covering a total extent of 13.57 acres have been identified for development.
Cabinet has granted approval to a proposal submitted by the Minister of Transport, Highways and Urban Development to call for investment proposals through an international competitive bidding process, in line with government procurement guidelines. Under this process, the nine land plots will be leased out for recreational and leisure-related projects along the Diyawanna Oya.
Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Land Development Corporation has already completed flood prevention and development work in the Battaramulla wetland area near the Diyawanna Oya. These include waterway improvements around the Waters Edge Hotel, which are expected to support the planned recreational developments and enhance the sustainability of the project area.
