The Republic of Türkiye (Turkey) has extended an official invitation to President Anura Kumara Disanayake for an official visit to Türkiye in April this year, the President’s Media Division (PMD) said.
The invitation was extended by the Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye, in Sri Lanka Semih Lütfü Turgut during a meeting with Secretary to the President Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake at the Presidential Secretariat today.
During the discussion, Ambassador Turgut reaffirmed Türkiye’s unwavering commitment to supporting Sri Lanka in achieving its economic development goals while further strengthening bilateral ties between the two nations.
He also praised the Sri Lankan government’s “Clean Sri Lanka” programme and expressed Türkiye’s willingness to assist in the country’s digitalization efforts and poverty alleviation programmes aimed at improving rural livelihoods.
The Ambassador also emphasised Türkiye’s continued support for Sri Lanka’s development initiatives in education, healthcare and agriculture. He noted that several agreements related to these sectors are expected to be signed in the near future.
Ambassador Turgut also announced an increase in the scholarship quota for Sri Lankan students studying in Türkiye, raising it from 15 to 25.
