Two wanted criminals brought back to Sri Lanka

Colombo, Feb 19 (Daily Mirror) - Two criminals wanted for several crimes committed in the country and listed by Interpol were brought back to the country today (19) under police orders.

The suspects, Ravidu Sandeepa Gunasekara and Amila Chandrananda, landed at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake on IndiGo flight 6E-1175 from Chennai, India at 12:50 p.m.

Gunasekara, from Kantale, is a former officer of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). He is accused of helping the notorious criminal Nadun Chinthaka, alias 'Harak Kata' in his attempt to escape from CID custody. 

Chandrananda, from Negombo, is wanted by the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) for several murders and shootings.

After they arrived, the police recorded their statements at the airport before taking them to the TID in Colombo for further questioning.

Two more criminals with similar red notices are expected to be brought back to Sri Lanka later on Monday night.
