Two urban council officials caught red-handed while accepting bribe

The Acting Secretary and the Revenue Inspector of the Seethawaka Urban Council have been arrested by the Bribery Commission for soliciting a bribe of Rs. 400,000.

The arrest was made on Friday (June 23) following a complaint lodged by an individual from Avissawella.

The accused parties were apprehended in the act of accepting the bribe in order to expedite the transfer of a shop ownership at the recently established commercial center at the Avissawella bus stand.

Upon the conclusion of initial investigations, the suspects will be produced before the Colombo Magistrate's Court.

What a joke is this ? How many people take bribes in Sri Lanka ? From tops to bottom.? I don't endorse what these two council people have done ? But be wise and be logical and be rational..how many our politicians steal our public funds in millions in commission? How many of them misuse their posts and positions? So do what Singapore President did long time ago ..He punished his foreign minister for his misuse of power and morny ? Punish some top officials then no one will do that...JR did try to do something like that but it didn't work ..He went far to take civic rights rather than imposing some strict rules...what we need is to maintain law and order...we need a good judiciary?.Ranil will never create an impartial judiciary rather he will keep his men as AGs.

The divisional sec.personal officials are the worse crooks when it comes to selling land for huge bribes and delaying the regular transfers in the intention of getting bribes or getting to themselves after the legitimate ones give up. Very sad situation
