Colombo, March 29 (Daily Mirror) - Two suspects accused of aiding a large-scale drug trafficking operation have been deported to Sri Lanka from India, police said.
The suspects, aged 23 and 57, were arrested by Indian security forces on March 24, 2026, for illegal entry and residency after fleeing Sri Lanka by sea following a police raid earlier this year.
They were deported on March 28 and taken into custody upon arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake by officers of the Criminal Investigation Department.
The case stems from a January 29 raid in the Gampaha area, where police seized 4 kilograms and 423 grams of cocaine along with 3,450 Mandrax tablets. Investigations revealed that the two suspects had allegedly assisted the main suspect in the trafficking operation.
The suspects, residents of Colombo 15, have been handed over to the Western Province North Crimes Division for further investigations.
