Colombo, Feb 07 (Daily Mirror) - OIC Giriulla Police CI Priyajanaka Alwis and OIC Crime Investigation Branch IP Charith Maduranga were produced before Kuliyapitiiya Addl Magistrate U.B. Kulatunga and remanded on suspicion of changing the lorry seized with a stock of illicit timber.
Investigating Police officers told court that the two Police officers had produced before the Narammala Magistrate another lorry in place of the lorry that was seized with the stock of illicit timber.
The lawyers appearing for the suspect officers however, submitted that the two officers had been arrested on a fabricated charge and that they had an unblemished career record. They moved to release the suspects on bail.
However, the magistrate who rejected the bail application remanded the suspects till April 10.
Suspects’ application for anticipatory bail had been rejected earlier.
Attorneys at Law Supun Adikari and Chandana Yala appeared for the suspects.
