Two nabbed with 47kg of spotted deer meat from Yala National Park



Colombo, July 28 (Daily Mirror) - Two individuals were arrested yesterday while transporting 47 kilograms of spotted deer meat on two motorcycles from Yala National Park, the Wildlife Department said.

The arrest was made during a patrol in the Gal Ara area of Zone 1 of the park yesterday. Investigations revealed that the suspects had used wire mesh to trap and kill the deer.

The suspects were taken to the Tissamaharama Magistrate's Court along with the meat and other case materials. Both suspects pleaded guilty and were released on personal bail of Rs. 500,000 each. The case will be heard again on August 1.

It was also revealed that one of the suspects had another case (BR/163/13) at the same court and had an open warrant for not attending. That case was also taken up, and the suspect was fined Rs. 55,000.
