Why no further inquiries as to what happened to them etc. Were they victims of any political high-up

    Sokrates Monday, 25 December 2023 04:05 PM

What kind of sick thing is this again? The girls are adults and can go wherever they want. To arrest these girls is a crime committed by the police, an unlawful arrest. It is also against the constitution and a human rights violation. But the police idiots can't understand something like that. They only learn when the Supreme Court convicts them of violating human rights and they have to pay a heavy fine with their own money.

if both the girls are employed at the same shop, the shop owners too should be investigated.

They are adults. Why police wasting their time when these ladies are happy to work and be in Matara.

    Saraga N Monday, 25 December 2023 05:55 PM

When are 18 year old and 19 year old forced to go back to abusive households? The girls fled their parents homes, and they are old enough to vote. The police cannot make adults go back to places of potential wickedness, and forced marriages.

Girl run away do not want forced marriage Monday, 25 December 2023 06:59 PM

What is the police doing? These girls at 19 and 18 are old enough to vote and lead their lives without parents telling them whom to marry. Clearly the police overstep the mark, and violate the fundamental rights of the girls forcing them back from where they fled.

Above 18 are ADULTS!! How can the police arrest them. They are free to do whatever they want as long as it is not illegal !! Legal aid should assist these teenagers to sue the Police for illegal arrest !

    Mohan Monday, 25 December 2023 10:13 PM

If they are 18 and 19, they are no longer minors. So, they should be free to make their own decisions.

if they are over 18 years old...the police is violating their FR by taking into custody ... on what basis were they handed over to the parents if they left home on their on volition ??

    Observer Tuesday, 26 December 2023 02:11 AM

Police could questioned them and inform them their parents are looking for them . They are adults. In this case police has no any reason to arrest them. The police has to follow the rules Not to be heros.

Minor or Major Tuesday, 26 December 2023 07:36 AM

In Sri Lanka you are a minor till you reach 55. After that you are a pensioner. The Gestapo has more rights than you and I.

Human Rights Violated Tuesday, 26 December 2023 07:50 AM

The Police force need to be educated on human rights, adults have the right to lead their own lives and make their own decisions. Clearly a WASTE of public funds, as we have seen in several instances where public servants get paid for going out of line. Why were the girls not QUESTIONED to hear their side of the story as to why they went missing? All these irrelevant issues brought to light and wastage of manpower the country is becoming scary to live in, citizens have no human rights. How does one expect tourism to flourish?

    Waco Tuesday, 26 December 2023 08:16 AM

Both these girls are adults .There were leading an independent lives. As usual idiots in the police proving they are idiots. Legal action should be taken against the police personals who are responsible for this arrest and remanding them.

    Binduhewa Tuesday, 26 December 2023 08:58 AM

Police should inform their parents about the girls.

Phone,po**, drugs are equally hazardous Tuesday, 26 December 2023 11:07 AM

You people are very positive, optimistic about these girls. I bet they would not have done good. Probably would have engaged in substance abuse, por***** and so on... human rights, constitutions dont keep the society nice. Stopping addictions, especially to phone and po** would do better for a better outcome...

Has anyone consider the possibility of these girls running away to escape from poverty and hunger prevailing in their houses and country? Our nation is not flowing with honey and milk. We are struggling to meet our basic needs of three meals a day. Parents may be worried about safety of the girls. Anything wrong in it?

Reply to Phone,po**, drugs are equally hazardous Tuesday, 26 December 2023 01:17 PM

"human rights, constitutions dont keep the society nice." So sexist people thinking they are above law is what keeps the country from chaos religions that only promotes disharmony and murders and terrorism riots religion is the curse of any country it is the reason why idiots go to MP positions And discriminating laws always happen and why some people even if they know the truth they belive in a lie

Human Being Wednesday, 27 December 2023 04:02 PM

@Sokrates : If I am not wrong you are living in a Europe country, Sri Lanka is not like Europe, we have a culture, Just because they are major does not mean they can be independent as they want, It can end up in a horrific way for both the young ladies, It is better police involved in this and took necessary action although it is against human rights, They thought beyond their Police Uniform I mean as a fellow Human Being.
