Colombo, Feb 21 (Daily Mirror) - Two people were killed in a wild elephant attack in Aralaganwila.

Police said the victims, a 72-year-old man and a 75-year-old woman, were killed in the Weheragama area of Aralaganwila.

The man was injured and reportedly died after being admitted to the Polonnaruwa Hospital.

The Aralaganwila Police are conducting further investigations.

Marauding wild elephants like this, harming legal cultivations and villages. must be captured and auctioned. Wildlife protection tax must be enforced for visiting wildlife areas. Then compensation can be paid to farmers, etc. Because, over 500 killed annually and over 4,000 elephants killed in the last 14 years and started to decline it as the elephant population is getting dwindled.

Too many villagers have done wrong to the elephants. These villagers for sure took away land from the elephants in the last 50 years. They should never have done the wrong, as karma is will always get them back this life or the next.

Any animal responsible for human death must be put down. I find it incomprehensible that these elephants are allowed to roam freely after killing people. Since human life is more valuable than animal life, the government need to take action. To defend themselves from elephants, people need firearms.
