Two killed, four injured in multi-vehicle crash in Matara

Colombo, July 20 (Daily Mirror) - Two people were killed and four others were injured in a multi-vehicle accident reported in the Rassandeniya area along the Matara-Tangalle main road on Sunday evening (July 19).

The accident occurred when a Defender SUV travelling from Matara towards Devinuwara attempted to overtake a car moving in the same direction, according to the Matara Police. The SUV reportedly collided with the car before crashing head-on into a lorry approaching from the opposite direction.

Six people who were travelling in the Defender, including the driver, sustained serious injuries and were admitted to the Matara General Hospital. Two of them later died while receiving treatment. The deceased were identified as 33-year-old and 36-year-old residents of Matara.

Police have arrested the drivers of the lorry and the car involved in the accident.
